Hope Wanders Adult Recess Adventures are designed to cultivate a supportive and healthy outdoor community for all adults aged 21 and over. These engaging field trips provide opportunities for connection, exploration, and well-being in nature. Importantly, the funds generated from these adventures directly support Hope Wanders mission by providing scholarships to women navigating difficult life situations, empowering them to experience the healing and community-building benefits of these very same outdoor excursions. So, while open to everyone, each “Recess Adventure” contributes to fostering a wider circle of support and opportunity.
Calling all adventurers! Get ready for a wild Wednesday of exploration and aquatic thrills with Hope Wanders! We’re heading to the stunning Carter Caves State Park in Olive Hill, Kentucky, for a day packed with natural beauty and an unbelievably unique experience you won’t find anywhere else this summer!
Our day kicks off with a refreshing 3.5-mile hike along the picturesque Three Bridges Trail. Prepare to be awestruck as we discover three of the park’s magnificent natural arches: the misty Smoky Bridge, the soaring Raven Bridge, and the delicate beauty of Fernbridge. That’s right – we’re hitting three incredible arches in one go! We’ll pause for a delightful lunch amidst the grandeur of the park’s iconic Natural Bridge, the perfect spot to refuel and soak in the scenery.
But hold on, the adventure doesn’t stop there! Prepare for the main event: an exclusive float through the mysterious depths of Cave Branch Cave hosted by Carter Caves State Resort Park For a limited time only this summer, we have the rare opportunity to grab a pool floaty, don a provided life jacket, and drift through the cool, dark waters of this incredible cave for up to 45 minutes! Imagine gently gliding through the subterranean stillness – it’s a surreal and unforgettable experience unlike anything you’ve ever done.
Leave the driving to us! Hope Wanders will provide comfortable transportation to and from Carter Caves (approximately a 4-hour drive each way, with convenient restroom stops). We’ll keep your energy levels up with provided snacks throughout the day. On our journey back, we’ll make a stop for dinner where you can choose your own delicious adventure (dinner cost not included in the trip price).

Hope Wanders Adult Recess Adventure: Kentucky Cave & Float Extravaganza! Wednesday, June 25th
5:00 AM: Rise and shine, adventurers! We’ll depart promptly from Trailhead Trader at 4 N Main St. MIAMISBURG in a comfortable van. Get ready for a day of incredible exploration!
Approx. 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM: We’ll make convenient restroom stops approximately every hour during our scenic drive to Carter Caves State Park. Stretch your legs and refresh for the adventures ahead!
9:00 AM: We arrive at the beautiful Carter Caves State Park in Olive Hill, Kentucky! We’ll take a brief break for restrooms, a quick snack (provided by Hope Wanders!), and a chance to stretch before we hit the trails.
10:00 AM: Let the hiking begin! We’ll embark on the Three Bridges Trail, a captivating 3.2-mile loop that will lead us to the park’s stunning natural arches. Prepare to be amazed by the unique formations of Smoky Bridge, Fern Bridge, and the impressive Raven Bridge. Keep your cameras ready for some incredible photo opportunities!
12:00 PM: Time for a picturesque picnic lunch! We’ll find a scenic spot near the iconic Natural Bridge to relax, refuel with your provided lunch, and soak in the breathtaking surroundings.
1:00 PM: We’ll meet at the Carter Caves Welcome Center to prepare for our highly anticipated cave float! We’ll go over important safety guidelines to ensure a fun and secure experience. Please remember that close-toed shoes are absolutely required for the cave portion of the adventure. We’ll get fitted with life jackets and prepare for our unique underground journey.
Approx. 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM: It’s time to float! We’ll descend into Cave Branch Cave for an unforgettable experience. Grab your provided pool floaty and gently drift through the mysterious, dark waters for up to 45 minutes. This is a truly exclusive opportunity!
Important Note: The cave float is weather-dependent and relies on safe water levels. Hope Wanders will monitor conditions closely and will communicate any necessary changes.
3:00 PM: After our incredible cave float, you’ll have the option to explore more of Carter Caves State Park! We might venture into Laurel Cave (time permitting) for another glimpse into the park’s fascinating underground world, or simply enjoy the above-ground scenery.
Approx. 4:00 PM: Time to say goodbye to the wonders of Carter Caves. We’ll board the van for our journey back towards Miamisburg.
Approx. 6:00 PM: We’ll make a stop for dinner at a convenient location along the way. Please note that the cost of dinner is not included in the trip price, allowing you to choose your own meal.
Approx. 9:00 PM: We anticipate arriving back at Trailhead Trader in Miamisburg, filled with incredible memories of our Kentucky Cave & Float Extravaganza!

Trip Cancellation by Hope Wanders: In the event that Hope Wanders needs to cancel a trip due to severe weather conditions, safety concerns, insufficient enrollment, or other unforeseen and unpredictable circumstances, participants will be offered the following options: A full refund of the trip cost. The option to transfer their payment to another available Hope Wanders Adult Recess Adventure of equal or lesser value (subject to availability). Hope Wanders will make every effort to notify participants as soon as a cancellation decision is made.
Individual Trip Cancellations: Hope Wanders does not offer refunds for individual participant cancellations, regardless of the reason. Our trip planning and logistics involve non-refundable costs and commitments made in advance.
Recommendation for Trip Insurance: To protect your investment in case you need to cancel your participation due to illness, injury, personal emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances, Hope Wanders strongly recommends purchasing individual trip insurance. This type of insurance can often reimburse you for non-refundable trip costs if you are unable to travel for covered reasons.
